Project: Supply and installation of Powered smoke extract to escape lobbies, AOV vents to Atrium and controls.

Details: Smoke Control Systems (SCS) provided smoke ventilation for the fire-fighting lobbies and stair of the fire-fighting shaft required because of the open-plan floor areas with powered smoke removal from the fire-fighting lobbies for minimum area of smoke shaft.
Equipment supplied operates as a complete system to provide the mechanical equivalent of what is described in Building Research Establishment (BRE) Project Report 79204.
Primary operation of the system is automatic from smoke detectors in the lobbies.
However, it may be that a fire incident occurs when the building is not occupied.
It could be then that with no escapees entering a lobby from a fire floor and bringing smoke with them smoke detection does not operate to start the ventilation system in a lobby.
Thus as recommended in BRE79204 each lobby contains a fire-fighters switch for fire-fighters to manually operate the ventilation system should they arrive and it not be operating as required to aid fire-fighting operations,
A pressure differential sensing system was provided for use in the escape phase so that in the escape phase the negative pressure created on a door does not exceed the maximum force to open recommended in British Standards.
The fan set contains duty and stand-by fan units with automatic change-over if required and the fan control panel receives duty and stand-by power supplies with automatic changeover if required.
In addition SCS provided ventilators for smoke clearance in the atrium with appropriate controls for fire-fighters.
